Jacob Topen is a Scottish composer creating original compositions and soundtracks for television, film, and advertising.

His work explores the relationship between composition and sound design, blending orchestral writing with electronics, texture, and rhythmic structure. He is driven by a passion for discovering new sounds, with a particular focus on tone, frequency, and resonance. His practice includes creating sound design from field recordings, developing new instruments, and experimenting with cymatics to generate original sonic palettes, always in service of mood and narrative, with an emphasis on atmosphere, emotional clarity, and restraint.

He has composed original music for television and branded work for clients including BBC and Issey Miyake, and frequently collaborates with directors and creative teams early in the storytelling process.

He is currently working across a mix of commercial, broadcast, and original projects.
